MOVING UP TO SUPERVISION: A FIVE-DAY SEMINAR FOR NEW UNIT SUPERVISORS
March 19-23, 2018
This seminar provides an extensive focus on skills and techniques that new unit supervisors might utilize in their day-to-day functions. It is designed for those officers with little or no supervisory training and who need such a program of study to effective oversee their unit's operation.

Topics include:
(1) supervision as a management tool;
(2) interpersonal communications;
(3) motivation and leadership skills;
(4) aspects and models for team building;
(5) performance appraisal;
(6) role of the supervisor as trainer and coach;
(7) use of discipline as an important supervisory tool;
(8) employees with problems and problem employees;
(9) supervising officers from various backgrounds;
(10) handling critical incidents within and outside the unit; and
(11) conflict resolution.

INSTRUCTORS: This will be a team-taught program with the following serving as instructors:
Assistant Chief Rodney Parks, Professional Development Unit, Metropolitan Police Department, Washington, DC (retired);
Inspector Regis Bryant, Metropolitan Police Department, Washington, DC; and
Captain Michael Crabbs, Harford County Sheriff's Office, Commander, Community Services Division, Bel Air, Maryland

DATE/LOCATION/TIME: March 19-23, 2018.at the Maryland Capitol Police Training Center, 301 West Preston Street in Baltimore, Maryland. Class will be in session 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.

FEE: $695 per person. Includes copy of textbook, Effective Police Supervision by Miller, More, and Braswell (8th edition)
