This five-day team-conducted seminar is designed specifically for the new criminal investigator, personnel who anticipate future criminal investigation unit assignment, and those with little or no previous formal training on topics relating to the methodology and procedures involved in this phase of law enforcement. The overall and basic objective is to provide the new or soon to be criminal investigator with an understanding of various aspects of criminal investigation. Through instructor classroom presentations coupled with textbook readings and suggestive references connected to these classroom presentations, participants should gain a solid foundation and understanding of basic investigative techniques and be mentally prepared for more advanced study on the topic.Topics include:(1) An Overview of Criminal Investigation; (2) Elements of Writing Sound and Effective Reports (3) Obtaining Information and Intelligence; (4) Canvassing Witnesses and Identifying Case suspects; (5) Types and Categories of Death Investigations; (6) Sex Offenses: (7) Crimes Perpetrated Against Minors and Children; (8) Robbery and Burglary Investigation; (9) Other Types and Forms of Property Offenses; and (10) Drug Case Investigation INSTRUCTOR: Chief Nelson Andreu, West Miami Police Department, West Miami, Florida. Chief Andreu will be assisted by other law enforcement highly experienced in matters relating to criminal investigation
LOCATION/TIME/DATE: August 6-10, 2018, Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Operations Center, 1030 NW 111 Avenue in Miami, Florida. Classes will be in session 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily
